My Florida My Family is an independent guide to the family and social services available in Florida. It explains, in ordinary language, what the main programmes are for, who they are aimed at, and what dealing with them actually involves.
It is not a government site. It is not operated by, affiliated with or endorsed by the State of Florida, the Florida Department of Children and Families, or any other agency. Nothing published here is an official notice, and nothing here creates or affects anyone's entitlement to anything.
Knowing what a programme is before you spend an afternoon on an application. Knowing what documents will be asked for. Knowing what a licence does and does not certify. Knowing which questions to ask a provider, and which answers should give you pause.
In other words: the context that official pages assume you already have.
It does not take applications, hold case files, check balances or issue decisions. It does not publish emergency or crisis contact details, because information of that kind goes stale and a stale crisis number is worse than none.
For anything that has to be filed, decided or acted on, the state's own official channels are the only correct route.
Descriptions are kept general on purpose. Income thresholds, benefit amounts, fees and deadlines change, and a guide that quotes them confidently is a guide that will be wrong within a year. Where a number genuinely matters, the page says where the current one lives instead of guessing at it.
Programmes change, and a guide written once and left alone becomes wrong quietly rather than loudly. Pages here are reviewed against the state's own published material, and anything that cannot be verified is written in general terms rather than stated as fact.
If a page here contradicts an official source, the official source is right and the page is out of date. That is not false modesty — it is how any secondary source should be read, including the ones that look more authoritative than this one.
